Mike has been getting to grips with Ho’okipa too, a pretty daunting and tricky break to sail as many of you will know, but what’s helped Mike? A brand new custom Quatro, that’s what! You can check out a full blog post about Mike’s adventures here and check out the gallery below.

Andre Le Geyt.
Day 2

Day two was the distance done on a very foggy course with waves to go in and out of at each end of the course. Team GB members did amazingly, with Marie Buchanan placing sixth in the ladies, Ollie Shilston 12th in the men’s and Charlie Grey 17th in the men’s!! I ended up equal 16th in the men’s prone having never done it before so was quite happy!! But quite gutted as they stopped it short because the fog got so thick !! I was 2k from the finish gutted doesn’t come close !! At the front there was a very close race with Jamie Mitchell coming first !!

Day 3

I was in the first heat I had one wave, with 5 mins left the other guy on the inside one score to get feeling good when the fog came down !! Sat around waiting for the restart for 6 hours when it came the surf was a lot worse and my opponent just hassled me so I couldn’t get a wave ! Again fog not my friend I lost by 0.3 gutted !! Jimbo surfed well but was unlucky with wave selection which was a lottery !!

Day 4

The surfing was going through the roof some amazing performances from the usual suspects but a Japanese guy was going really well as we as the local Peru riders !! Abi Barker Smith was unlucky in her heat as big sets where washing through and it was hard to line up ! But she tried her best and hats off for going out, it was solid !! The two men’s tech races where unreal double overhead waves !! Ollie Shilston was awesome !! He was battling with Jamie Mitchell and Eric Terrien and was just pipped on the line to take 5th ! Paul Byrne from Ireland had the wave !! From the outside marker to the inside buoy it had the crowd on its feet !! He also made it to the finals !! Charlie Grey was in heat two and put on a fantastic performance in the heat 2 where the sets didn’t seem to stop to also qualify for the final !! I can’t wait to see that !!

Andre is a rider for Loco SUP, check out more about Loco here.
Check out more round ups from previous days on the next page.

A month has passed since we learned that Mikey Clancy had passed away. In honour of this many friends took to the waters of Cape Town for a paddle out, lead by Mikey’s dear friend Katie McAnena.

“Today is Mikey’s Month’s Mind as we call it in Ireland, a month after he passed, today 06/02/12 which is a big event in Ireland. So many of Mikey’s friends were here in Cape Town for this event that we thought we’d do a paddle out in his memory. So many people came and I’d like to thank them so much; John Skye, Ross Williams, Chris Murray, Andy Bubble Chambers, Max Rowe, Jem Hall, Jamie Hancock, Steven Van Broeckhaven, Chris Friis, Amanda Beenan, Manuel Grafenauer, Dave White, Mike Archer and many many more. Again I am speechless at the loss of an incredible person, an incredible friend and an incredible windsurfer. I honestly have nothing to say that can articulate how the wind has been punched out of all of us and we are truly heartbroken. All our love and thoughts are with his amazing family; Bernie, Sean and Michael Snr today, and every day.”

The most talked about piece of windsurfing news again this week was of course the continuation of the Luderitz speed competition; the windsurfing section of the challenge is now over and the canal is being handed over to the kite surfers, but check out all the Luderitz news right here.

In more speedy news British slalom champion Ant Baker was showing off his 2013 North Warps this week; and speaking of showing off looks like the girls are having more than a little bit of fun in Maui here! We are sure yet more showing took place in the Liverpool SWA event last weekend too, check out the gallery and report on the event from Tushingham team rider Jo Wright.

Other big news this week was that it looks like there will be another edition to the PWA calendar in 2013, with Cape Town hosting the final round of the PWA Wave World Tour!
