Results came through this week from various events, including the BSA event at Worthing, we have a full report here from Ant Baker right here which includes some great freestyle shots from Mike Archer. Lets hope the freestyle and Stena Line racing event at Herne Bay this weekend is a little more lucky with the wind!

This week there has been a fair few videos in the mix, our favourites being this Go Pro edit from 14 year old french windsurfer Alexandre Grand-Guillot and of course the latest video from Jason Polakow at Jaws.

Lucky enough to spend a lot of his time on Maui, Swifty frequently gets to sail with great sailors like Jason Polakow, Ricardo Campello and Dean Christener. The winter in Hawaii is renowned for delivering big swells and Swifty was there to capture it all on camera. Check out the guys at the start of the winter on Maui scoring some epic conditions at Ho’okipa, Jaws and Lanes. Polakow is clearly still ripping with the younger guys and Campello continues to push the sport, with an insane backloop off the lip at 1:38 and plenty of hardcore crashes! Another brilliant edit from Robby Swift, here is what he had to say:

‘This winter on Maui wasn’t an epic one. We didn’t have too many big swells and the wind was very strong and gusty making for challenging conditions. I personally had a frustrating start to the winter as broke my foot in August and so was out for the first half, having to watch a nice Jaws swell and lots of good days at Hookipa. I started sailing gingerly again in January and didn’t feel too bad till Ricardo arrived and started throwing huge back loops off the lip, goiters and all kinds of other crazy stunts.

Anyway, making this highlights video has certainly fired me up for the NeilPryde photoshoot for which I am currently on my way back to Maui, and I hope that you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it!!’

Jason Polakow on Cloudbreak

Oxbow rider Jason Polakow crisscrossed the South Pacific catching record sized swells all the way from Tahiti to Fiji and in the process captured some incredible video.

The summer session of 2011 was nothing short of epic with the largest waves seen in over 30 years. Jason puts on a dazzling video showcase of his waveriding versatility towing-in in Tahiti, and in near perfect windsurfing conditions at Cloudbreak captures a session for the record books.

“There were a lot of pro big wave surfers in the line-up. Everyone was there from Kelly Slater to Bruce Irons. I rigged my equipment in the boat watching all the boys pull into big tubes. The boat started to take me up into the line-up and a huge close out set washed everyone in. I threw my rig into the line-up and basically had it all to myself for 2 hours. A lot of the boys hung around to watch a windsurfer rip big Cloudbreak which was good for our sport. Everyone was shouting and yelling words of praise after each ride,” said Jason about his memorable session at Cloudbreak.

Oxbow Ride the Sky

Oxbow Ride the Sky presented by Naish will take the sport of windsurfing to world-record breaking heights on Maui in April. This event will be held at Ho’okipa Beach Park on the east side of the Valley Isle and its one-month holding period begins on April 1.

A celebrity panel of watermen will be judging this event: Maui windsurfers Mark Angulo and Baptiste Gossein, as well as 2010 ASP World Longboard Champ Duane DeSoto. They will be judging 20 of the world’s best windsurfers in Oxbow Ride the Sky presented by Naish in April. These professional athletes will be competing for highest air, best trick and worst wipeout. The highest air will be awarded a $100 per foot and $2,500 will go to best trick winner.

Oxbow Hawai’i is also proud to announce a list of alternate local sailors from Ho’okipa for this mind-blowing event: Leo Ray, Patrick Bergeron, Kevin Pritchard, Kai Katchadourian, Nathan Mashon, Nicolas Dramisino and Diego Femenias. If any of the primary invitees are unable to compete in Oxbow Ride the Sky presented by Naish then the aforementioned world-class windsurfers will take their place.

Oxbow Ride the Sky officials will choose the best possible conditions for the single day of competition. Competitors will utilize a GPS system on their boards, which will measure their amplitude, speed and height. These professional athletes will be competing for highest air, best trick and worst wipeout. The highest air will be awarded a $100 per foot and $2,500 will go to best trick winner.

There are 20 world-class windsurfers invited to this event, like Oxbow team riders Jason Polakow (AUS), Levi Siver (USA), Kai Lenny (USA), Phillip Koster (GER), Levi Siver, Jason Polakow, Kai Lenny and Phillip Koster but also Naish International’s Robby Naish (USA), its invitees and alternates, Julien Taboulet (FRA), Boujmaa Guiloul (MAR), Victor Fernandez (SPN), Marcilio Browne (BRA), Ricardo Campello (VEN), Robby Swift (UK), Francisco Porcella (ITA), Camille Julban (FRA), Kauli Seaudi (BRA), Graham Ezzy (USA), Antoine Albeau (FRA), Dale Cook (USA), Keith Teboul (USA), Alex Mussolini (SPN), Thomas Traversa (FRA).
