Alacati is located on the Cesme Peninsula, the westernmost point of Turkey in the Aegean Sea. It is 12 kilometers away from Cesme, a well-known holiday town that is famous for its thermal waters, clean white beaches and its vast holiday options. Alacati, overshadowed by Cesme until recent years, is quickly becoming one of the most popular holiday places for windsurfers who visit Alacati Bay to enjoy its constant wind, nice waves and surf schools.

Cagla Kubat: Windsurfing has been a huge part of Cagla’s life. Her love for the sport has been an inspiration to all aspects of her life. She has been known as a television personality, an actress, a model, a beauty queen, an engineer, and as a champion windsurfer. In her heart and soul she is simply a windsurfer. It is now her desire to help bring more people into the sport of windsurfing and share in the joy and adventure she has experienced. The Cagla Kubat Windsurf School has been founded to share her love for the sport, to inspire healthy living, and enjoy the beautiful conditions that the nature of Turkey has to offer.

The IFCA Slalom Worlds for women, and Europeans for the men came to a close recently in the Bay of Roses, Spain.

A week of hard fought competition took place amongst the women, Karin Jaggi stood firm throughout the week, taking four out of seven race wins and not slipping below third in any race. Karin, was followed by Delphin Cousin in second and Cagla Kubat in third.

Within the men’s racing, four full rounds were managed with Matteo Iachino taking the win, with Arnon Dagan in second and Bora Kozanoglu in third. Though some of the top names were absent, this did not make the racing any easier, and Matteo put in an exceptional performance to win above Arnon.

The final day of the IFCA PRO KIDS at Brouwersdam started early with a skippers meeting at 9 am. A chill cloudy day with winds from 18 up to 25 knots with a little bit of rain and later sunshine made it possible to finish another single and a double elimination. The beach was packed with spectators and the competition was on for the whole day. Later that day the awards ceremony was being held and the 2011 IFCA PRO KIDS Champions could finally be crowned.

IFCA PRO KIDS Final day highlights:

All the way from Russia Kostya Smirnov who was struggling in the first rounds but, finally managed to perform better and made it to a 5th position in the double eliminations round. Steven Max from Aruba took home a well deserved 3rd place making sure to the others bellow him that he was not to be mess with. Best variety of tricks and a pretty solid routine performance we saw from Ethan Westera from Aruba with highlighted tricks such as his no handed flakas fast grubies and e sliders.

Rafael de Windt from Curacao transformed his trade mark move the spock and kiss to an even unthinkable trick which is now spock and wisle the judges could not help but to give him extra point for that one also was he one of the many riders who busted tricks right in front of the judges “rocks” including a punch, Kono’s a few double jumped flaka’s and a Toad with a huge spray towards the judges. Rafael has nothing less and nothing more than the perfect style and attitude for a Freestyle entertainer.

Dutch Boy Pim vd Borgt got impressive skills and gave the judges a hard time making decisions even kicking out Nick van Ingen in the single elimination with a bunch of powerful tricks including normal kono’s, one handed funnels stylish shaka’s and a air flaka’s to name a few.

A second place brought some tension between the top 4 riders in the U20 category. And then in the double elimination Pim could not do the same routine this time but, in the end he took home a well deserved third place.

As for Nick van Ingen it was a very successful day going from 3rd place in the single to a first place in the double elimination. It was a battle between two friends and they were going for everything.

In the end Nick had a few bigger moves than his opponent Rick Jendrusch and won the double elimination on the last competition day a very close heat and a great show full of tension.

Rick Jendrusch a 100% Brouwersdam local, a competitor everyone would cheer for, a competitor everyone would watch competing in his home spot. This guy probably had the experience of a life time winning the single and loosing the double elimination against his friend Nick. Rick Jendrusch knew how to compete in his back yard and performed solid tricks on both tacks with a few moves (double punieta, switch kono’s) in front of his supporters and fans. He won the double elimination the previous day and earned enough points on the last day of the event to be awarded with a WORLD CHAMPION title in the junior’s category.

The IFCA PRO KIDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Brouwersdam was truly an amazing event with great wind conditions and a fantastic atmosphere.

Isaac Bradly-Baker who went wind skating during the stand by period on the second day of the event and got himself seriously hurt and ended up in the hospital with a head injury. He skipped a day of competition and got back the day after, safe and sound from his power nap landing a Vulcan and performing sail tricks and chop hops on both tacks. He received a Tricktionary DVD and will be training the next few months for the European Freestyle Pro Kids Tour.

Mattijs Lasore the crowd pleaser who learned windsurfing just a few years ago was the eye catcher of the event with his cute friendly vibes on and off the water. You could see him trying new moves during the event and coming to the beach to ask the other kids how to perfect certain other tricks. Rumours were spreading around that he scooped up a new sponsor, “perhaps his first sponsor” more info on Mattijs will follow in a official interview that is in process for the press.

Big thanks go out to:

Provincie zeeland

Zeil and Surf centrum Brouwersdam and its crew members for organizing and taking care of everything at the event site.

In just its third edition, the Curacao Challenge has the honour of hosting the IFCA Slalom World Championships Prokids, Junior, Youth and Masters. IFCA President Bruno de Wannemaeker visited last year’s event to see if Curacao and the organization were capable, and they were. From April 19th -24th over 80 competitors will compete from 13 different countries, such as France, Australia, Portugal, Poland, New Zealand, Germany, the United States, Aruba and the Netherlands.

Curacao has great wind conditions year round with trade winds blowing around 20 knots. With an average of 8 sun hours a day and no need for a wetsuit, the island has everything windsurfers dream of. The event location is set on the St Joris Bay. This is a secluded bay on the North side of Curacao, known for its breathtaking surroundings, the island’s best wind conditions and no boats or other water traffic; just sea turtles, flamingos and a true free spirited windsurf spot as it is supposed to be. The location also provides a perfect up & close view for the spectators.

Choosing this location for the event was obvious. The real challenge was turning the location into a real event area as there were no basic amenities present. The Curacao Challenge decided to build a Surf Town from scratch with tents for shade and everything else built in original style with driftwood and bamboo. An atmosphere will be created, which is unique for contemporary windsurf competitions around the world. Curacao calls this: the Curacao difference.

As most competitors traveled a long way to get here and we want the most spectators possible, entertainment is added to provide fun for everybody. This means wakeboard-, freestyle- and kite surf shows, SUP races, live music, a kidscorner with special workshops, bikini show, beach tennis, bungee trampoline and much more.

Event news, results and photos and live streaming will be shared daily with the world through the website and social networks.

From 19th April to 24th April 2011, the IFCA Slalom World Championship for Prokids, Youth, Juniors and Masters will be held on Curacao. Online registration already started and with registration discounts for entries before the 31st of March and team registrations. On the IFCA website ifca.internationalwindsurfing.com or the event website www.curacaochallenge.com the registration form can be found.

The organisation lies in the hands of the Curacao Challenge, which, in just its third edition, has proved to be a welcome addition to windsurf competitions around the Caribbean and of course the world.

Curacao has great wind conditions year round with tradewinds blowing of around 20 knots. With an average of 8 sun hours a day and absolutely no need for a wetsuit, this beautiful Caribbean island has everything a windsurfer dreams of. The conditions are similar to neighboring islands Aruba and Bonaire, which are two of the world’s most popular windsurf destinations.

The race itself will be held at the St. Joris Bay, a secluded bay on the northeastern side of the island where nature is still completely intact, no boats and has Curacao’s best wind conditions.

Curacao has good flight connections from Europe, the US and of course Latin America and the Caribbean.
29 year-old Frenchman Sylvain Moussilmani (Starboard, Simmer) holds a solid 7th position in the Overall PWA slalom, but excelled in the IFCA slalom ranking this year. While the last event started inauspiciously for Sylvain, with Brazilian Gabriel Browne (Starboard) taking the first bullet of the competition and Frenchman Julien Quentel (RRD, Neilpryde) taking second, the rest of the event in Flecheiras looked very different. Sylvain found his form and finished the competition on day five clear by 3.4 points. Julien took silver on the podium and Steve Allen (Starboard, Severne) took the bronze position.

Alice Arutkin

And while Sylvain secured his top position at the end of the season, 18-year old sailor Alice Arutkin (Starboard, North Sails), has won every round on the IFCA tour so far, making her the new 2010 IFCA Slalom World Champion even before the event ended. Unlike the men’s division, where competition was a lot closer, Alice Arutkin dominated the ladies division with superior sailing.

Just finished 5 days and (for me) 28 heats of the IFCA Slalom Worlds. Flecheiras in northern Brazil certainly delivered the goods with 15-20knots and relentless sunshine every day. I used my JP Slalom VI 112 in all of the races with 8.6 and 7.8 RS Racing Evo II sails. I slighty regreted my decision to leave my big slalom board at home as it was a bit light on the inside at times. The competition was stiff and the winners finals were packed with PWA top twenty sailors. Sylvain Moussilmani took four bullets ahead of Julian Quentel’s three on the way to winning the event. Australian Steve Allen took third and in doing so prevented a French clean sweep of the podium. Alice Arutkin won the womens competition. Personally my sailing was a bit erratic and I dropped a few key gybes after good starts when I had the likes of Moussilmani breathing down my neck. I had a good battle with Croatian Enrico Marotti but frustratingly lost eleventh place in the final race. I ended up twelfth place overall and can look back on the event as giving me some great experience against top quality opposition from which I hope to build on for next year.

French sailors won the two series of races this Thursday and Julien Quentel takes the edge in the competition held in Flecheiras (EC)

Trairi (EC) – French Field on the second day of the Wind Brazil – World Cup slalom, which is being held on beach Flecheiras in the municipality of Ceará Trairi, located 130 km from Fortaleza (CE). The sailors of France won the first three positions in two series of races contested on Thursday, with winds between 15 and 22 knots (27.80 and 40.77 km / h).

After four races and one discard computed, Julien Quentel took the lead in overall standings with 5.7 points lost. “I kept the regularity of the first day and stand firm in my purpose to win here in Brazil,” said the representative of France for 24 years. Second is Sylvain Moussilmani, followed by Ceará Gabriel Browne, Biel, and also French Antoine Questel. The three have the same score, 6.7 points, proving the great balance of the championship.

The sailor of Ceará not repeat the performance on Wednesday, mainly because the mast of his sail broke during the semifinals of the first series of races and lost the lead. In the second series, he finished in fourth place, behind Julien Quentel (3), Sylvain Moussilmani (2) and Antoine Questel (1). “I gave a bit unlucky, but everything is on schedule, as I stood among the first,” he said Biel.

The highlight of Wednesday was Sylvain Moussilmani. In addition to staying in second place in the final race of the day, he won the first and jumped from fifth to runner-up overall in Wind Brazil – World Cup Slalom. Son of a French mother and Syrian father, the seventh ranked by Professionals Windsurfing Association (PWA) said he was pleased with his performance. “The day was fine, since I kept the title battle, which is my goal,” he warned.

Brazil – Santa Catarina The Wilhelm Schurmann is the best Brazilian after Biel. The Santa Catarina occupies the seventh place with 16 points. John Henry Ferreira, Janjao of Icaraizinho (EC), occupies the 10th position with 25 points; Levy Lenz, Fortaleza, is in 14th with 41 points.

Two representatives of Jericoacoara, a major tourist destination in the West Coast of Ceara, are competing in Flecheiras: Ian Moor, who is in 13th place with 35 points and Antonio Benevaldo Cruz, Bing, in 15th with 43 points. Both compete with inferior equipment to the opponents, and even then, are successfully facing the platoon foreign intermediary. “We do what we can,” Ian mused.

Women – On Thursday, two were contested races in the women’s category, which includes the participation of five athletes. The French Arutkin Alice, as occurred on the first day, won both the race and remain unbeaten. With four races and made a disposal computed, it accumulates lost 2.1 points.

“I’m happy with my performance. After all there were four wins from four races. I am happier because Ceará is a great place to sail and compete because it is windy all day, a pleasant climate and sea water is warm,” he said Alice , who praised the Brazilian opponent. “Do not know, but came to see that they are very good and may evolve further during the competition,” concluded the young sailor of 18 years.

Mônica Veras remains the best Brazilian in the standings with six points. She earned a third and second places this second day of competition and continues in front of compatriot Juliana Farias, with eight points. The Gaucho Ana Sofia Cardoso is in fourth place with 14 points. “The goal, which is to be the first in Brazil, is being met,” the state of Ceará.

On the possibility of overcoming Arutkin Alice, the Brazilian octacampeã Slalom said it was an almost impossible task because of the difference in equipment between the two. “As the wind is not strong, I lose performance because she’s sailing with a sail bigger than mine and it makes much difference,” explained Monica.

Juliana Farias, who is returning to competition after two year absence to be a mother, said she was delighted with his performance on Wednesday for two reasons. “I managed to get in front of Monica in a battery, I managed to drop in front of another and not only kept the lead because the distances between the buoys is great and I lose speed because of the very small candle,” he said.

Thirty-two athletes from Australia, France, Portugal, Britain, Spain, Turkey, Croatia and Brazil participate in the contest male and five Women’s World Cup slalom, which distributes a total of $ 30,000 (about U.S. $ 54 thousand) and set the world champions of the Senior category (main) and Ladies, Juniors and Masters of the.

The first series of races this Friday, the fifth in the championship, is scheduled for 12 hours (13h GMT). The second starts at 14h30 (15h30 GMT). The prediction is that the wind speed increases in intensity on the third day of racing, reaching 20 knots (37.07 km / h) and average higher gusts.

Fastest mode of windsurfing – The Slalom is the fastest mode of windsurfing. Athletes can reach up to 70 km / h on days of strong winds. In the championships, is obeyed the key system. In Flecheiras, sailors are divided into short battery of five minutes on average, six athletes and the top four advance to the semifinals, which are performed with eight sailors in each. The four losers vie for the “End of Losers.” The four best placed to define the winner of each race in the Final of the Winners. ”
