We’ve just checked the forecast for the Boardwise demo at Aberdovey and it looks like an explosive weekend. Dave White’s packed three vans with the latest boards and sails from RRD and is heading down there as we write. We know he’s got a windsurfing addiction so if you want to join him for an early fix he should be there from around 1pm.

Aberdovey

All the suppliers, including Ross Williams of Gaastra/Tabou (Find out more about Ross and Gaastra/Tabou in the UK on his Facebook page here.) will be there in force with the latest kit to try out plus we’ll be taking our own demo vans full to the brim of the latest gear! You can expect all the usual fun and action on the water with Windsurfing and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP).

The demo weekend will take place in the beautiful setting of Aberdovey, the perfect flat water bump and jump location in mid-Wales. For those wanting a bit of wave action there is a sand bar just out of the estuary mouth for you to get your fix on. The demo starts at 10am Saturday and will finish about 4pm Sunday.  Here’s a map if you’re not sure where Aberdovey is.

What if there’s no wind?

Even if there’s no wind you can have a go at Stand Up Paddle Boarding there will be loads of boards to try out on the water. There’s loads to do around Aberdovey town and in the area there’s: amazing mountain biking, golf courses, climbing, walking, fishing etc. etc. So you won’t be short of something to do if it doesn’t blow!

On the Saturday night it’s party time. Parking is right next to the beach and as long as the correct fees are paid, camping in vans overnight is allowed on Friday and Saturday nights. If your looking for somewhere to stay check out the Aberdovey website for a list of guest houses or cottage rentals in the area. There are also several campsites along the coast road with the nearest one being just 5 minutes up the coast road towards Tywyn.

Aberdovey is a beautiful town with loads to do so bring the whole family along for a great weekend.

What - a family fun and demo day with  local BWA Club members helping to get people on the water windsurfing and paddling (SUP).

Get your mates on the water, teach your kids or anyone who wants to have a go. There will be stacks of demo kit from many of the brands  available and rigged up to check out and try on the water.

Sails – North, Simmer, Ezzy, Naish and Tushingham.

SUP – Fanatic, Starboard, Naish, O’Shea

There will be a BBQ available from Gwent Adventures, and if the weather does let us down there will be an event marquee, changing rooms and an event shelter in the rigging area to keep everyone dry.

OTC/Puravida – All of the equipment  from both centre’s in Weymouth is heading to South Wales and will be available to test and also for sale with many clearance deals.

Wetsuits – there will be a full selection of summer suits available to try and buy.

Puravida Demo Van – (planned but not promised) the boys are working on a kitting out a big wagon with rigged sails and a selection of windsurf boards and SUP’s that can head to the lakes and beaches of the UK which hopefully will be ready for the 29th.

Starboard/Tushingham representative and top windsurf/SUP coach Sam Ross will be on hand with coaching tips.

Sam will be offering free clinic time, demos and rigging advice as well as some SUP coaching for any newcomers to the sport. Sam will also have a selection of demo kit from Starboard and Tushingham to compliment what OTC/Puravida are already bringing.

So far the weekend forecast looks really good with a nice breeze that should work well at the reservoir.

Caldy Island Relay & Windsurf Festival

It’s less than a week to go before Pura Vida Boardriders & Tenby Windsurf Club head to Tenby for the Caldy Island Relay for Cancer Research, August Bank Holiday weekend. They will enjoy their best line-up of activities yet, and the forecast already looks ideal to run the relay and make sure all abilities can get on the water!

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend of 27th/28th/29th, Puravida Boardriders and Tenby Windsurf Club will be hosting a charity relay, fun slalom, windsurf clinic and demo weekend in association with Fanatic Boards, North Sails, Ion, Simmer Style, Mistral and O’Shea who have kindly donated the prizes and will be showing off their latest kit, at Tenby South beach … including a BBQ and beers on the Saturday night at the clubhouse!

Entry is only £30 per person for the entire weekend and all the money raised will be going straight to cancer research so please come along and take part, and bring the family! Entry includes free clinic time, access to all the great demo kit and your event T-Shirt and saturday’s BBQ. Social guests are also very welcome. There will be a range of activities for all ages and abilities taking place over the weekend depending on the wind, including advice from Nik Baker, Farrel O’Shea, Kev Greenslade and Simon Pettifer.

For the 3rd year running there will be a relay competition out to Caldy Island and back in teams of 3, but this year in our celebrity raffle on Saturday at 11am you could win one of our top stars like Nik Baker or British Speed Champion Kev Greenslade as well as top Pura Vida Teamriders to boost your teams performance! Entry and registration will be on the Saturday morning at 9.30am and the relay will run on best wind. The maximum sail size is 9m on any board (excluding formula), teams may use up to 3 sets of kit or share. Name your teams now…..and don’t forget there is the coveted ‘Fancy Dress’ challenge that some say is the one to win!

Please note that you must have 3rd party insurance to take part.

Closest camping with beach access is at Kiln Park but there are various campsites, hotels, B&Bs etc. in and around Tenby, so book soon to avoid disappointment. Many will sleep overnight in vans near to the beach.

Team Mistral / Simmer

Following on from last year’s record attendance, Pura Vida Boardriders are proud to present the Caldy Island Relay for its third year in Tenby. Raising money for Cancer Research this year’s event will be greatly supported by Farrel O’Shea’s Simmer and Mistral team including Kevin Greenslade and Simon Petifer, as well as Nik Baker showing off the latest Fantatic and North kit.

Over the weekend Pura Vida Boardriders will not only host the Caldy Island challenge, welcoming teams of three from all over the UK, but they will have a huge range of equipment to demo as well as fun challenges and clinic time from their top riders.

Nobles Rutland Demo flyer

There’s only two days to go until the Dave Noble’s demo at Rutland Water, so why not head down to the Windsurfing Beach at Rutland Water Sports, check out all the latest gear and meet some of the greats from the windsurfing industry? Dave Noble’s Windsurfing is holding the Rutland Demo on Sunday 10^th July 2011. Come along to test all the new kit from Simmer / Mistral, North / Fanatic, Starboard / Tushingham, Pryde / JP, and get to meet some of the greats of windsurfing including Nik Baker, Farrel O’Shea, Jamie Gibbs. The demo will run from 9.30am until 5.30pm, as usual the team will be there the night before (Saturday 9^th July 2011) from around 5pm for BBQ and beers down at the lake side – come down and join them!

If you would like to camp over on the Saturday night there is a £10 charge and you need to book with Rutland Water Sports on 01780 460154. Usual launch fees apply.

Also this year Ant Baker from Baker Academy will be running a Windsurfing Clinic throughout the day, his session will be running from 10am until 12pm and 1.30pm until 4.30pm. Still leaving time at lunch and after the session to test out kit. Nobles are charging £35 for the clinic and limiting it to 15 people, spaces on the clinic are being booked up, so please get in touch and get your space.

Wet'n'Dry JP / Pryde Demo

Jamie Dodds of Wet’n'Dry Boardsports in Essex has been in touch to let us know they’re hosting a JP / NeilPryde Demo this weekend – Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June.

Emile Kott (ex Boards Magazine tester) and Will Barratt will be at West Wittering Windsurf Club offering FREE DEMOS on the latest 2011 gear from Gaastra Sails and Tabou Boards with help from 2XS and X-Train.

This year, the Gaastra and Tabou ranges have been fully reworked and it is well worth heading to West Wittering to check out the gear and try it out on the water.

Aberdovey!

BOARDWISE DEMO WEEKEND & BSA SLALOM

19th & 20th June will see another round of the BSA Slalom and the Boardwise Summer Demo Weekend at Aberdovey Estuary (Wales)

With the competition hotting up in the BSA series this year there is sure to be some close racing in both the Pro and Amateur fleets, with a £800 Pro Prize Pot and Neilpryde Tempo sail and X3 boom on offer for the successful Amateur, no one can afford to miss round 4 of the series.

The Boardwise demo will comprise all our shop stocked importers offering windsurfers of all levels the opportunity to have a go on new toyz, rumor has it that there might be a smattering of 2011 kit… ooohh exciting stuff! We will have our usual bar-be-cue and beers on the Saturday night with two bands playing at the Aberdovey Club house throughout the night.

It is looking increasing likely that we will be getting some good windy weather, there is definitely something brewing out in the Atlantic…
