A quick update about what’s new on the website and glance at what’s to come…

News:

With so much going on in this sport we decided to ramp up our news content. Instead of the 2/3 daily posts we have stepped it up to 4/5 a day. Be sure to keep an eye on both the ‘home’ page and also the ‘news’ page so as not to miss out on competitions, last minute holiday deals, epic videos and more…

Features:

This weeks features have taken on a bit of a grass-roots approach with SWA Will and RYA Emma looking at club activity in and around the UK. There’s a lot of thought gone in to both articles, they are well worth a read and your comments and feedback are more than welcome at the bottom of the page. Further down is our Fitness Monthly from Lucy, who looks at how to avoid cramp whilst sailing. Finally, a highlight in next weeks features is a cracking interview with John Skye as well as some shots from Cape Town which reveal a little more about what’s in store with RRD this year…

LiveChats:

This week we had a hugely successful LiveChat with Josh Angulo. One hour of questioning from you guys and lots of typing from him resulted in plenty of detailed information about his move to Point-7, his plans for the future and if PWA Waves were still on the agenda. In fact the LiveChat was so popular the site simply went off-line for two minutes, we’ve already worked on this so that much much higher traffic levels can be accepted during our next LiveChat. So be sure to login when we have our next guest lined up.

Developments:

In the coming weeks you will notice a few tweaks to the site, this is to add even more excitement/information for the coming UK/EFPT/PWA events season. We plan to bring you as much of the up-to-date coverage that we can get our hands on as well as test-piloting some new ways of reporting about the events.

Paper Magazine:

The Boards Spring/Summer annual has had a team that have literally been working round the clock to get it finished in time. The work really shows as a high quality piece will hit doormats within two weeks time. Keep checking the site as the opportunity to purchase the magazine will go up shortly as well as a sneak-peak at the contents page…

Contributions:

We are always keen to see your content, Amateur or Pro, so please feel free to submit your ideas/photos/videos/news/features to the Boards news team by heading to our contact page – boards.mpora.com/contact

On Thursday 17 November, Factory Media released the following statement…

Following an extensive review of the current windsurfing market and the demands of both audiences and brands, BOARDS have made the proactive decision to increase their investment and presence within the online market. From 1 Jan 2012, we will begin a programme of investment that will include the launch of a new windsurfing website and mobile applications at www.boards.co.uk (please note – the forum will be unaffected other than enhancements to speed and reliability, which we realise will be much welcomed).

To complement the enhanced digital experience and to better optimise the use of traditional media, BOARDS magazine will be restructured into a high quality ‘reference’ publication with two scheduled releases per year. In addition to these publications, the team will also create a BOARDS ‘Basics’ magazine aimed at increasing windsurfing accessibility and participation.

Subscribers to BOARDS magazine will receive a letter with issue 280 fully explaining what this will mean to them.

Overall, this investment and restructuring represents an exciting future for BOARDS magazine and one that should continue to increase audiences through media that best support windsurfers in the UK and beyond.

Follow discussion on this post at www.boards.co.uk/forums

HOME GROUND – CAPITAL WINDSURFING

For some, coastal sailing is king, but for the majority of UK windsurfers it’s our lakes and reservoirs that reign supreme – and nowhere is this more true than in our capital…

MINI TEST – RDM EXTENSIONS

There’s nothing more frustrating than an extension that doesn’t work well, so to help you decide what you should be ramming up your mast, Adrian Jones puts 12 of the latest models through their paces…

BSA ABERDFYFI

The BSA crew rocks into Wales for round 3 of the national slalom series. Michael George reports…

DAHAB FESTIVAL

Recent developments in Egypt have had a huge impact on tourism, with all bar the Brits reluctant to return. Time then to organise a little something to lure them back!

SELF SERVICE

UKWA FREESTYLE ROUND 2

The UK’s finest freestylers explode into action at a sunny and windy Minnis Bay. Will Rogers reports…

Probably best if we step away and let Peter Hart explain all…

Still convinced that freestyle boards are designed purely for hyperactive rubber-limbed kids with gyroscopic balancing skills? Then read on as Adrian Jones, ably assisted as ever by the Clones, brings us up to date…

INTERNED IN THE LOFT

Windsurfing internships are tough to come by… Or are they? Harmen Bakker reveals how a simple but effective four-step plan resulted in him spending a fruitful five months at a well-known sail loft…

MINI TEST 2

Our esteemed editor discovers that working for a windsurfing mag isn’t all sweetness and light; occasionally you have to confront your fears, face the elephant in the room, and let the cat out of the bag…

BETWEEN CANCER AND SECOND LIFE

Axel Reese catches up with freestyle sensation and film producer Andre Paskowski to find out how his post operative rehab’s going, and talk about his plans for the future…

MR & MRS WINDSURFING

+++ ADDENDUM +++

Unfortunately a printing error has led to a glitch on p126 of this issue and the omission of a few lines of text. Dave White: “Jaw dropping mistaken celebration. It’s not so much I want to celebrate a mistake but having been told at school I’m likely to bring a long list of them, I feel quite honoured to be highlighting the second in my time at BOARDS. File corruption or printer error for me isn’t the issue, it’s the content that went missing I’d rather draw your attention to. Sure, you’ll still find Robby Swift sailing Jaws within the pages of BOARDS when it drops through your door, but in a rather left field approach to the sneak peek, here’s p126 in its full and unadulterated glory.”
