Lucy Horwood takes Silver at the Worlds!

Current British Formula Windsurfing Champion on fine form…

Currently 1st lady in the British National 2001 Wind Surfing Formula Class
Championships & Welsh National Champion, Lucy Horwood was chosen as the
sole female to join the British wind Surfing team in the Ceara Wind 2001 Formula
Wind Surfing World Championships at Fortaleza in Brazil last week. 20-27 October.
And she returned home with the Silver Medal for Britain this weekend.

"Well, I am absolutely stoked at coming second. It was a great event!
The organisation out there was really good and the racing conditions were excellent.
It was really windy every day and as the days and races went by, I knew that
I was in with a very good chance of achieving the Silver Medal."

"Doreta (Staszweska – the World Champion) sailed a perfect event
for the Gold and I only managed to beat her twice, she realised that I was her
only real competition and had to keep ahead of me. I finished 3rd. last year
(at the World Championships in Thailand) and this year I have shown that I have
improved a great deal since then. I am looking forward to stirring Doreta in
the Euro Cup and World Cup events next year before aiming for Gold in the World
Championships.2002."

"This event was my last year in the Espoir age group (21 years old
and under) and I was pleased to finish 1st. Doreta is 23 years old and Karin
Jaggi is 27 so I have got a few years on them". It has all been great but
now it is back to Uni and further training for the next events."

Lucy – 21 years of age, speaks Welsh fluently and is currently reading for
a BSc in Sports Science at the University of Wales in Cardiff.
