Justyna Sniady Recovering Well

Amy Carter Amy Carter

Seems like today is all about injury updates, thankfully all of which seem to be positive! Another of the PWA ladies, and current leader of the BWA tour, Justyna Sniady, badly injured her foot in Pozo before the event.

Many have been waiting to hear how Justyna is doing, so here is an update from the lady herself:

“After five depressing weeks, where I wasn’t sure whether I will ever walk normally let alone sail again, yesterday my surgeon gave me the first positive feedback about my foot!

Looks like the wounds after the surgery are healing well and no infection took place. He took my full cast off and now I only have a “shell” from underneath my leg. I still have wires sticking out of my foot (they will take them out in three weeks) but the stitches are now out (last week we couldn’t take them out because my foot was dangerously swollen).

I can now start to slowly try to move my toes and ankle muscles.. It’s still a long way ahead of me as I had a very complicated breakage – five bones, two completely crushed and the worse thing – sprained lis franc joint, so they can’t give me the guarantee it will end up good, but it’s looking better.

I know now that my foot will never be the same, but there are chances I will recover enough not to limp and in a way to go back to windsurfing (maybe with a slight pain – but I am always in some kind of pain so that’s ok haha.)

Looking at the bright side I finally have skinny legs! Well – one of them! When they took my cast off my cave was the size of my arm!

Just as I heard the better news I booked my flight to Tenerife, to at least see the action live! So, I am heading there tomorrow! Different gear this time as instead of my boards and sails I will be bringing my wheelchair.

Thank you to everyone for crossing their fingers for me and sending all the supporting messages – they really help a lot!! Hope to see you on the water soon!”
