JP Young Gun Classic (YGC) is an annual windsurfing camp in the Danish North Sea spot Klitmøller, – also known as The Cold Hawaii. It is not a contest, and it is not a camp where a number of instructors are making a fixed programme. It is a windsurfing holiday for Young Guns from around Europe. And it is open for all levels and ages up to 20 years. And for their parents too!

YGC is organized by JP-Australia and NeilPryde Scandinavia with great help from Young Guns and their parents.

YGC 2010 takes place in the Danish school holidays 17-20th October, and the daily programme is all about having fun together with other young guns from around Europe.

Morning briefings in “Redningshuset” inform about the daily programme. Most Young Guns prefer to stay in Klitmøller and windsurf, surf, stand up paddle, play beach volley or hang out with each other. If the wind is up (and it most often is), the choice goes between four different spots:

Klitmøller – the famous spot with sandy beaches and sideshore conditions – it works perfectly in winds from south to west for both wave beginners and pros. It was originally a fisherman’s village, and also today, fresh fish is landed daily and directly on the beach. Klitmøller is the central spot for most of the action during the week, and also where most families rent vacation houses.

Hanstholm – 15 minutes north of Klitmøller –is the spot called Middles. It is just next to a fish factory, so you can literally smell your way to the spot!

Wind directions from west to north west give this spot world class conditions. No parking problems. Lots of space for everyone. Less experienced Young Guns like it too, because the inner section is flat.

Krik Vig – this spot is app. 45 minutes south of Klitmøller, but it is worth driving for! Krik Vig is a unique freestyle spot in the Limfjord behind the protecting sand dunes. Young Guns are aware that any trick is possible here. And the pros know it too!

Vandet Sø – it is a lake, and it is only 10 minutes drive from Klitmøller. Well protected with flat water and with nice grass for rigging. Ideal for beginners and for freestyle practice.

Entry – The dates for 2010 are 17-20th October. Send e-mail to Neilpryde Scandinavia at torben@neilpryde.dk and inform your name, address, age and cell phone numbers of both Young Gun and parents.

The entry fee is as low as 30 Euros. Included in the fee is all the action and a JP event jersey that must be worn during the event. Approved floatation vest is compulsory.

Parents – All Young Guns are expected to bring parents or other adults who can support them with practical things such as driving, cooking and carrying their gear.. Parents can also volunteer for a couple of hours of duty in the kitchen. Parents usually get together in the evening in one end of “Redningshuset”.

Personal coaching by Top Guns – The level goes from first time harness and water starting, – and into loops and spectacular waveriding for the best. For those wanting personal coaching, there will be a team of “Top Guns” ready. Lessons can be booked with experts like Xenia Kessler, Jonas Knudsen and Sebastian Kornum who all started their career a couple of years ago as Young Guns.

Girls Group – More than 25 girls are expected to enter the 2010 YGC, and Xenia Kessler, who finished 5th in a world cup earlier this year, will make a special Girls Group. So far, the programme is not official, but one thing is for sure, – it will not be boring!

Accomodation – A number of agencies rent vacation houses at reasonable prices from around 400 euros per week. You can google the many options by printing “Klitmøller sommerhus”. Facebook groups have been made for those wanting to share a house with other families.

Windsurfingshop – A windsurf shop is located right on the spot in Klitmøller. The name of the shop is Westwind Klitmøller and they are open all days.

Video and photos – Like previous years, JP photographer Christian Goebel, the worlds biggest Young gun, will make a video and also take photos that can been seen on the website either same day or the day after. Check out last year’s video on the JP-Australia website.
