Some of the world’s best windsurfers travel to what could be the most stunning of all the tropical islands, on an epic forecast. What more could you want from a windsurfing video?

Sit back and enjoy Brawzinho, Keith Teboul, Bernd Roediger and Kevin Pritchard absolutely shredding the most beautiful of waves. Watch out for Brawzinho, he is absolutely on fire throughout, and takes some big almighty crashes too (especially at 3mins 21secs!), plus some very in your face action and KP showing he’s still got all the moves with some full power gauging turns.

Those pesky students are feeling mischievous again, this time they will be unleashing their mayhem with thousands of other students at Beach Break Live…

Bubble at BBL 2012.

That’s right. Beach Break Live is an award winning boutique beach side bonanza of magic, mischief and memories.

The SWA are going to be joining the 20,000 unified revellers in the ultimate pastures of pleasure….miles of sandy beach, epic woodland and supersonic sound systems and celebrate the start of summer with the 4-day beach party like no other, combining a killer line up and frivolous fun with an infamous vibe.

As well as some of the biggest and best live acts in the world, BBL also plays host to the student extreme games. Student snow sports, wakeboarding, kitesurfing are all present and the SWA will be there showing them all how it’s done properly, with racing and freestyle competitions taking centre stage.

This year at BBL the SWA will be laying on tuition for beginners/intermediates too, so make sure you make you way down to the beach and spread the word amongst other Unis to spread the windsurf love.

Facebook event page here.

More info from the SWA:

‘The forecast has been fluctuating like crazy the past couple of days and its currently looking pretty extreme on Saturday.

So we’re going to monitor the forecast until tomorrow eve when we will make a decision as to the day of the competition. COMPETITORS KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR AN EMAIL CONFIRMING DATES

All Windsurfing competitions and Tuition will be happening on Watergate Bay (just down the road from the campsite) and there will be 2 days of activity.

If the conditions aren’t too crazy there will be FREE tuition, and we’ll run a competition on the day of best conditions.

There’s also opportunity to learn wavesailing if the conditions are right so check that out.

You can also freeride during the weekend but please be aware of dangers and conditions.

Competitors

We’ll send out another message tomorrow eve letting everyone know which day(s) will be competition days once we have a more accurate forecast. We’ll also let you know which heats you are in.

On the competition day competitors will need to be at the beach 1 hour before start time and setting up, there’s not much time to get through all the comps before high tide so we need all competitors to be on the ball! Everyone else come down and watch/freeride!

Try and keep your phones charged so I can send competitors texts if the timings change!

Transport

Watergate is a 4 min drive from the BBL campsite and you can take your car in and out of the campsite car park 24 hrs. So pile into cars and head down to the beach, we have a shuttlebus running from the campsite to the town where all the music is all day so when riding is done at Watergate, drive back to the campsite, ditch your car and jump on the bus to the music!

Kit

If you have your own kit, we have a storage room at the campsite where you can leave kit but you will only be able to access it for a period in the morning and in the afternoon.

If you’re in a caravan I would just store it in there, or if you have a van in the car park you can stick it in there.

We have demo kit from Tushingham and some kit from some very generous uni clubs that are lending us some for the weekend so if you don’t have kit come and ask!

PLEASE LOOK AFTER ANY KIT AS IF IT IS YOUR OWN! Don’t leave it unattended or smash it up!

We have marquees and tents on the beach so theres plenty of chill out space in between rides.

Prizes!

We have some awesome prizes up for grabs this weekend including some Longboards from the team at Red Pivot Skateboards and a whole host of Tushingham goodies!

We’ll update you all tomorrow when we have a more accurate forecast…’

Update* there is now a Facebook group for the petition here and the group are encouraging you to leave a comment here with your view.

Boards has found the news that yet more beloved windsurfing beaches are under threat shocking, the latest place to potentially lose windsurfing access to some of it’s best beaches is the south of France. However, you can help. A petition has been set up by a French group to put across windsurfer’s views and hopefully save some of the best speed and slalom spots in France. The site appears to only be in French, so apologies for the Google translation, our French isn’t quite up to speed in the Boards’ office!

Dear friends windsurfers

The spot called “Old News” is threatened with imminent closure. Indeed, the Conservatoire du Littoral has to purchase it for one symbolic euro with total ban on access.

After the closure of the range of the Coussoulles Franqui here that we close one of the most beautiful spots in the region slalom not to say France.

Who’s next? South Beach Port-La-Nouvelle already threatened during the summer Gruissan, Port Mahon, Lapalme with Natura 2000, the Nautique, the Leucate be?

We must all be aware that we must defend access to our spots and practices that remain unrecognized government. Our sport as we know perfectly ecological because it uses only the wind, we must make our voices heard in order to continue practicing.

In an attempt to prevent the closure of this spot, we ask you to send the following message followed by your name and address to this mailbox:

pln.windsurf @ free.fr

“I ask that the traditional beach called Old New access remains open to the practice of sports including windsurfing thanks to the establishment of a tread for a reasoned and reasonable access to the shore”

or the French version…

« Je demande que l’accès traditionnel à la plage dite de la Vieille Nouvelle reste ouvert pour la pratique des sports de glisse et notamment du windsurf grâce à la mise en place d’une bande de roulement permettant un accès raisonné et raisonnable au rivage »

Be careful not to procrastinate, time is short and we are already taking contacts for appointment earlier this year to try to save this spot.

Thank you to you all for your support and good glide as it is still possible!

On Saturday the 15th of June across the country groups of people came together for the W4CR Sunrise to Sunset, to windsurf to raise money for cancer research. Here’s what happened at Siblyback lake in the South West of England:

Siblyback Lake Sunrise to Sunset

“On Saturday 15 June windsurfers and sailors of all ages and abilities gathered at Siblyback Lake on Bodmin Moor braving the windy conditions to take part in a fundraising challenge to raise money for Cancer Research. Watersports for Cancer Research is part of a larger event across the UK to get as many windsurfers, sailors, kitesurfers, surfers and stand up paddles boarders on the water as possible.

Siblyback’s junior club all took part in the successful event including some parents. 30 windsurfers and dinghy sailors were on the water by 3pm with winds up 40mph making some really spectacular windsurfing and sailing. Everybody fell in at some point during the day but it all added to the fun.

David Tuttlebee, a windsurfer who was diagnosed with cancer, set up the Windsurfing for Cancer Research (W4CR) charity with a mission to increase awareness of cancer amongst the Watersports community and related activities in the UK and beyond. David’s cancer spread further, his condition deteriorated and sadly, he passed away in September 2010. This year the Charity re launched under the new name of ‘Watersports for Cancer Research’ in order to widen the range of activities and to provide charity to all forms of Water based activities.

Watersports Instructor Nick Craker who organised Siblyback’s event said, “It was great to see so many people out on the water of all different ages and abilities supporting this fantastic charity. This is the fourth year Siblyback has hosted the Watersports for cancer research event and it has continued to grow in popularity every year.”

Lots of donations were received and many more are still flooding in.”

Boards will have more about other W4CR events in the near future, did you run an event? If you did and would like to share your story please email to amy@boards.co.uk

The freestylers and slalom sailors that made it down to Worthing beach for the UKWA competition this weekend were treated to an incredible 35-40knots and stormy seas, making competition tough for even the most experienced of professionals.

In the slalom James Dinsmore was triumphant in the pro fleet, posting two bullets, with local man Ant Baker in second, whilst Simon Cofield took third spot in the tough racing. To paint a picture of just how windy it Ant Baker was racing on his 5.7m and was definitely not underpowered!

James Dinsmore takes the win

The freestyle competitors had to up their game too, with much of the competition taking part in less than ideal conditions! No more flat water, the seas were pretty messy, with a solid shore dump coming through too, so congratulations to all competitors for taking it on!

In the pro freestyle it was rising star Oscar Carmichael who took the win, with GetWindsurfing’s Phil Richards in second and Nic Hibdige third. In the amateur fleet Kieran Roan (check out more about Kieran in the Boards feature here) won in style, with Tushingham’s Ollie Acton second and Ben Lee and Jack Sawbridge tied for third.

The weekend also saw former pro windsurfing Mat Pearch making his way back onto the water after a few years absent. Did he take it easy? Go out and have a few warm up runs before going big? Of course not. Mat went straight out and busted out a massive back loop, cheered and jeered on by the crowds. Not to be outdone Nik Baker also took to the water around high tide and showed he still has the skills in all conditions, putting on some smooth wave riding and a jumping masterclass.

There are a whole host of photos from the weekend making the rounds, here’s our top shots, courtesy of K66.

Lizzie Smith from the UK is one of many talented sailors currently calling Dahab home as she works for Club Dahab, and it’s easy to see in her sailing just how much she has progressed.
