NEW BOARDWISE STUDENT FREESTYLE CHAMPION

Congratulations to Sam Stevens for winning the SWA Boardwise freestyle series.

The series was hard fought until the final event of the year. The final event held by Southampton University at Calshot was completed in light gusty winds. Sam, currently studying Ship Science at Southampton University, combined planning manoeuvres in the gusts with off the plane geckos and sail tricks to win the event joint with Pete Baldwin who pulled of a Vulcan in one of the infrequent gusts. Sam’s result won him the series ahead of Gordon Margery (Bristol) in 2nd and Dave Dawson (Southampton) in 3rd.

Many thanks to Boardwise for sponsoring the series. Boardwise along with Tushingham donated the first prize, a 6.6 Tushingham Wedge complete rig. Also thanks to Andy King for judging the freestyle and handing out the prizes.

The SWA/Boardwise freestyle series is now in its third year, every event attracting large amounts spectators and enabling the countries best student windsurfers to the showcase the sport.
