LWA YOUNG WINDSURFER OF THE YEAR

LONDON WINDSURFING ASSOCIATION YOUNG WINDSURFER OF THE YEAR 2005

Dan Simpson’s first taste of windsurfing was as a five-year-old passenger, sat in front of the mast, on John Blunsden’s board at Willen Lake. Dan was subsequently taught to windsurf at Oxford Sailing Club by Mike Roberts and the regular windsurfers at Farmoor Reservoir. He has enjoyed the racing and the camaraderie of the LWA ever since his first competitive effort at Bewl in 2002. The Inland venues are not always perfect for formula racing but the company is always just right!

Dan was delighted to be selected for the RYA Great Britain Formula Youth Team in 2005 and to receive his first formal Formula training. International racers Xavier Ferlet and Keith Atkinson (reigning British Formula Champion and himself a previous winner of this award) have taken time out to coach Dan too. This high quality training and a lot of enthusiasm has helped Dan achieve good results in 2005:

Formula Junior Vice World Champion
UKWA Formula Inland Champion
UKWA Formula Youth Champion
UKWA Slalom Junior Champion
Weymouth Speed Week Youth Champion
LWA Young Windsurfer of the Year

Dan would like to thank his sponsors: Ultra Sport, Offshore Sports, Surfkraft, Bloc Eyewear, Oxford Sailing Club, Oxford Youth Sail Training Group, Cherwell District Council.
