ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award 2005
ISAF has announced the male and female sailors shortlisted for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards 2005. Four female and six male crews make up the 2005 shortlist, ranging from speed to offshore to Olympic sailing.
In the male category, speedsailor and PWA rider Finian Maynard (IVB-11, F2/ Naish) made the cut for his achievements in speedsailing and slalom, officially being the worldâ€™s fastest windpowered man on the water.
The criteria for nomination for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards 2005 is ‘outstanding achievement’ in the period 1st of September 2004 to 31st of August 2005. In 2005, a fascinating mix of sailors present outstanding achievements from across the spectrum of the sport and will set the race for some close voting.
Maynardâ€™s list of achievements contributing to his nomination includes:
WR – 48.70 knots – WSSRC 500m course record, outright and 10sqM, April 2005
WR – 46.82 knots – WSSRC 500m course record, outright and 10sqM, November 2004
1st – IFCA Slalom European Championship, June 2005
3rd – IFCA Slalom World Championship, July 2005
3rd – ISA Speedsurfing Grand Prix, July 2005
The winners will be unveiled at the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards Dinner and Presentation on the 8th of November 2005 at the Grand Copthorne Hotel in Singapore. Each winner will be presented with the prestigious ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award Trophy and a Rolex timepiece.
