FORMULA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, GREECE, DAY 3

FORMULA WINDSURFING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005 AT FORUM BEACH HOTEL -
IALISOS BEACH / Rhodes

Domination of Wojtek Brzozowski and Antoine Albeau

Ialisos/Rhodes, June 9th 2005.
On the third day of the Formula Windsurfing European Championships in
Ialisos/Rhodes (Greece) the wind was stronger then on the opening days. With
gusts up to over 25 knots many of the competitors were brought to their
personal limits. The race committee ran three races for each group of the
men’s fleet and two races for the women. Two of the racers obviously loved
these conditions and took advantage of their high wind potential: The
reigning Formula Windsurfing European Champion Wojtek Brzozowski (POL-10,
Starboard, Neil Pryde) and the French Windsurfing giant Antoine Albeau
(FRA-192, AHD, Neil Pryde) dominated their fleets at will. In the women’s
Fleet Sarah Hebert (FRA-61, Starboard, Naish Sails) enjoyed the stronger
breeze and scored two bullets also.

The men’s fleet was still in the qualification series and divided in two
groups. Wojtek Brzozowski from Poland won all three races of the blue group
today. But Antoine Albeau was as strong as him and dominated the yellow
group with three victories. Last days leader Micah Buzianis (USA-34, F2,
North Sails) was still strong with two seconds and a fourth but Ross
Williams (GBR-83, Starboard, Gaastra) outmatched him as well as the Formula
Windsurfing World Champion 2003 Steve Allen (AUS-0, Fanatic, Neil Pryde).
Both scored two second places and a third.

In the women’s fleet the French Sarah Hebert was more then happy over the
challenging conditions. She won both races of the day and moved up to the
second place with 12,4 points in the result list. Allison Shreeve (AUS-911,
F2, Neil Pryde) lost some ground with two third places but managed to stay
on top with 7,1 points. Lucy Horwood (GBR-95, North Sails) is third with
13,7 points.

After the third day of the Formula Windsurfing European Championships Wojtek
Brzozowski took over the lead with 4,2 points in front of Antoine Albeau
with 6,8 points. Micah Buzianis dropped down to the third place with 9,4
points. In his neck he has Ross Williams with 11,4 points. With a little
distance Steve Allen (15,0 points) and Gonzalo Costa-Hoevel (ARG-3, F2, Neil
Pryde, 17,7 points) follow on the positions five and six.

If the forecasts come true we the wind will increase even more tomorrow. The
meteorologists expect gusts up to over 30 knots. Also the men’s fleet will
be split into Gold Fleet and Silver Fleet tomorrow. The skippers meeting is
set for 10:00 with the first start at 11:00. The Formula Windsurfing
European Championships will continue until Saturday, June 11th.

Comments:

Antoine Albeau (FRA-192, AHD, Neil Pryde): “This are the conditions I love.
I hope for even more wind tomorrow.”

Wojtek Brzozowski (POL-10, Starboard, Neil Pryde): “Everything went perfect
for me today in the races. Although I even broke a mast ten minutes before
one race and barely made it to the start. But the real fight will start
tomorrow when all the top riders fight in one fleet.”

Ross Williams (GBR-83, Starboard, Gaastra):”Bloody windy but good fun!”

Allison Shreeve (AUS-911, F2, Neil Pryde): “It was tough out there today! I
was fighting hard. Sarah and Lucy were sailing really well in these
conditions. But none the less I had a great day out on the water.”
