Tragic Accident

On September 9, 2004, a tragic windsurfing accident took the life of
30-year old Vincent Proulx at Oka, near Montreal, Canada. It was a very
windy day, but nothing out of the ordinary for Vincent, an experienced
windsurfer who’d been sailing for around 20 years. According to the
autopsy report determining cause of death, Vincent suffered a heavy blow
to the head (probably from his mast), lost consciousness and drowned.

Vincent was wearing a lifejacket that day, but he wasn’t wearing a
helmet. If he’d been wearing one, he’d probably still be with those he
loved most today – his wife Annie and their 3-year old daughter Éliane.
He would have been here for the birth of his second child. He would still
be here lighting up the lives of all those around him; everyone who knew
Vincent will always remember his big heart and great passion for
life.

Vincent’s loved ones have asked us to spread the news as far and wide as
possible, in the hope that this terrible accident can help reinforce one
simple, but often-forgotten message – that wearing a helmet when
windsurfing could save your life.
