Freestyle To Take Off Caribbean Style Early In 2005 As Bonaire Set To Host
Inaugural Event Of The Year

Building on the successes of the last 2 years, the PWA, in conjunction
with the Bonaire Sailing Foundation has decided to reschedule the Bonaire
King of the Caribbean Freestyle event to May, for the 2005 season.

Bonaire was until recently an undiscovered windsurfing paradise, offering
incredible sailing on crystal clear turquoise waters in the heart of the
Caribbean. In 2002, the Bonaire King of the Caribbean became the first PWA
Windsurfing event on the island catapulting the beautiful venue to the
forefront of the windsurfing press. The 2003 event once again made for a
superb finale to the Freestyle tour with superb conditions.

Despite previous successes, the decision to move the dates will ensure the
future of what has become one of the strongest events on the PWA Calendar.
Lac Bay, where the event is held, has indeed enjoyed excellent Freestyle
conditions during previous year’s contests, but the December dates do not
generally carry the best wind statistics. Winds during May are
traditionally 4-5 knots stronger than in December, which will do much to
ensure a great contest.

In addition to the more consistent conditions, the May dates will also
allow for vastly improved media coverage through more convenient
scheduling providing a much greater impact both inside and outside of the
windsurfing press.

As one of the first events of the year, Bonaire will undoubtedly attract a
strong entry list, with all sailors wishing to strut their stuff and make
an early mark on the Freestyle rankings. It will also be the first
opportunity for the world to see what’s hot and what’s not after a winter
of training and development.
