TUSHINGHAM SUPERLIGHT CDS MAST

Tushingham break new ground with their new ‘Superlight CDS’ mast. The first differential stiffness windsurfing mast of the modern era. This mast has a normal round appearance and is built to standard ‘constant curve’ IMCS bend profiles, but it’s 20% stiffer sideways than a standard mast. This is achieved by incorporating ceramic reinforcement into the sidewalls of this otherwise 100% carbon fibre mast, the first time that this technology has been used in a windsurfing mast. With its ‘constant curve’ bend specification the Superlight CDS can be used in existing standard sails providing the IMCS number is compatible, but it’s on the water that the sailor will notice the difference.

The extra sideways stiffness will result in an improved reflex response and a better overall rig dynamic, holding more power through the lulls and gaining extra ‘squirt’ from the gusts. The sail is held in a more efficient profile by minimising power loss through excessive sideways bend. Large amounts of sideways bend are not desirable, but without any supporting rigging, this has been something that the sail designer has simply had to put up with and work around until now. By introducing this element of sideways control the Superlight CDS opens the door to a new chapter of performance from the rig concept that already holds the outright sailing speed record.

The Tushingham Superlight CDS is available now in limited quantities as an upgrade to Tushingham’s ultimate Superlight R 100% carbon construction. Available in lengths between 400cm and 580cm it’s recommended for use with speed orientated sail designs, for those sailors who are looking for ultimate speed and performance.
