The Most Hardcore Slalom From The 80s, 90s & 2000s

2014 kicked off with a bang. Howling winds in the UK and the rest of the Europe, some of the biggest swell seen for years and everyone taking to the water to enjoy the extreme conditions.

The UK and worldwide calendars got released at the start of the year too, promising busy schedules for everyone from the local competitor to the PWA pro. The UK calendar is still holding strong, but already there have been notable changes for the PWA; it’s a shame to see promising events being cancelled and postponed and we can only hope that more stops will be back on the pro tour in 2015.

For more info on the PWA calendar head to our sister site Boardseeker here.

Here at Boards we think we have the answer to spicing up the PWA tour.

Something that will spice up the PWA (or UKWA) tour.

That will test all the best racers and bring back some serious drama.

Should windsurfing bring back this old school racing style?

Should windsurfing bring back this old school racing style?

Who remembers the old school surf slalom? And the infamous PWA at Brighton in the 90s? Or the balls to the wall Pozo slalom from the noughties?

Beachstart starting, massive swell rolling through, crushing shore break and a lot of carnage. This was windsurf racing at it’s best.

Has windsurf racing gone soft this decade? Should we bring back some full power beach start style starts and slalom racing in more hardcore conditions?

We, for one, would definitely like to see some more hardcore action!

Check out the three videos below, showcasing just what we think windsurf racing should be all about and have your vote. Do you want to see more full on carnage racing and the pro sailors really being pushed to the limit?

Beach start racing in the ’80s

Brighton PBA beach start carnage in the ’90s

No beach starts, but full power slalom in Pozo from the ’00s
