Boards at the Olympics: Day One

157 comments 07:22PM Tue, 31st July 2012

The RS:X women took to the water straight after the men, the bright pink limited edition Olympic sails reflecting the small amount of sunshine we had today.

Across both races the usual suspects stood out, ALABAU NEIRA Marina from Spain (current leader), KORSIZ Lee-El of Israel (second) and MASLIVETS Olha of the Ukraine (third) were all producing the performances we were expecting, with Marina in particular shining in the gusty conditions.

The Polish rider NOCETI-KLEPACKA Zofia had a slightly disappointing first race, starting off eight at the first windward mark then climbing to finish in fifth. Zofia came back with a vengeance in race two, as she overtook the rider from Israel in a close battle for second. Along with the current top three Zofia will definitely be one to watch tomorrow, especially if the strong winds that have been forecast materialise.

As with the men’s races it proved to head left in the women’s races, their course being the the same outline as the men’s just a little smaller.

Bryony Shaw is currently sixth overall after a solid day on racing on day one. Boards interviewed Bryony as she came off the water to find out exactly what happened on the water today. Check out the full interview here.
