Day Three…

The next day proved to be even more problematic, no swell.

The swell forecast had shifted until later along with the wind. Unfortunately, our ferry was booked in the afternoon right as the swell kicked in. Killing time we toured round the island seeing the swell kicking in with 30ft waves on the west side of the island with dead onshore winds. By the time we got to the ferry port the swell had really kicked in and it was too much for the ferry, which was cancelled until the next morning. We rushed back to the north of the island where I sneaked in a surf. Steve nearly joined me but then ran back to get his windsurf kit. This would have been a better choice as the wind picked up I was greeted by a face full of blinding spray on the steep take offs while Steve seemed to be having a brilliant time sailing circles round me, there was no time to rig up before dark.

I was made to feel a little better when Steve got a bit overzealous on the inside and ended up washed up the rocks. Thankfully he only suffered a broken mast extension. Mark was on photo duty as was pretty knackered from the day before. He also didn’t fancy hanging out with the local farmer who let us park in his cow shit covered shed, which he locked us in at first. It turned out that he was just moving cows but it did freak us out for a little though.
